In addition to raising funds to send kids to camp, The Toronto United Church Council works with the camps of Shining Waters Region to renew camp infrastructure and to develop capital reserve funds for each camp.
Since 2008, TUCC and the camps have participated in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon’s Charity Challenge. Each camp sends a contingent of walkers and runners who take pride in giving back to their camp, while enjoying a day of physical activity. Last year, the cumulative fundraising from the years of our participation in the marathon reached nearly $200,000.
TUCC has:
- established a capital reserve fund for each Camp that can be accessed for capital renewal projects.
- continued to build a separate TUCC Camp Capital Care Fund which offers grants to the camps to offset the costs of property taxes and capital expenses.
- continued to make its camp properties available rent free for United Church camping programs.
TUCC will not be organizing a marathon team in 2022. Should you wish to register as a individual runner, please visit the STWM website. Questions? Please contact Ali Hayes, Events & Communication Coordinator, at (905) 771-5124 or ali@tucc.ca.
