Gift from your Donor-Advised Fund
In the spirit of heartfelt generosity, many donors, prospective donors, and supporters find joy in giving through their donor-advised fund (DAF) — a charitable investment account that facilitates easy support for various innovative ministries, such as engaging church developments, transformative camping experiences, compassionate social justice partnerships, and more. This approach allows donors to make a significant positive impact on areas of the Church that hold a special place in your heart.
What is a DAF?
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a private fund administered by a public charity or financial institution, such as a community foundation, one of Canada’s investment banks, insurance companies, or a charitable organization like TUCC. It is established to manage charitable donations on behalf of an individual, family, or organization. Functioning as a charitable ‘vehicle,’ it enables donors to make substantial donations, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants from the fund over time. Donors can contribute to the fund at their discretion and recommend grants to their favourite charitable organizations, typically on an annual basis.
How can you give to TUCC from your existing DAF?
Regardless of who administers your DAF, once a year, the organization will request granting decisions for a specified amount in your fund—this amount can be earned income only or a combination of income and principal depending on your DAF’s structure.
The following three steps should guide you in contributing to TUCC:
- When your DAF amount becomes available for granting, ask your DAF advisor to direct the grant to TUCC. Specify either one of our Funds or direct your grant to TUCC’s General Fund for maximum immediate impact in connecting your generosity to ministries in the regions we serve.
- Complete a granting form from your DAF administrator or email your advisor with your granting choice(s). Contact your DAF administrator for guidance.
- Instruct your advisor to mail the grant contribution to TUCC. Include your name, contact information, the fund’s name for depositing your grant contribution, and enclose a cheque payable to “Toronto United Church Council” to the following address: TUCC 49 Bogert Avenue North York, ON M2N 1K4 ATTN: Fundraising
Alternatively, instruct your advisor to electronically transfer your grant contribution to TUCC. For this option, ask your DAF advisor to contact our Director of Fundraising and Donor Care for electronic transfer information.
TUCC is profoundly grateful to be the recipient of donor-advised funds in support of many diverse projects, missions, and ministries across the regions we serve.
If you are uncertain about the project, mission, or ministry that you would like to support, we invite you to contact us for a full list of our funds or to discuss the area(s) of the Church that deeply matter to you and where you can make a faithful and tremendous impact.
Legacy Planning:
DAFs are one way to leave a positive and lasting impact through innovative giving strategies. You are warmly invited to establish a personally directed fund and lasting legacy with TUCC, benefiting ministries and mission in the Church, along with other cherished charities you hold dear. Your family members can participate in granting decisions from your personally directed fund after you are gone, fostering a tradition of generosity through the generations. To establish your own personally directed fund with TUCC, please visit our Legacy Giving page for more details.
PLEASE SEEK EXPERT ADVICE: Any gift made during your lifetime or through your estate requires professional advice. The Toronto United Church Council strongly recommends that you seek such advice to ensure your financial goals are considered, your tax situation reviewed, and that your gift is tailored to your circumstances. A financial or legal advisor should review in detail what best fits your needs.
